Justin Verlander has become the first starting pitcher in 25 years to capture an MVP trophy. Verlander won the Cy Young award last week, and has some more hardware to add to his trophy case. Ellsbury came in second in the voting, followed by Blue Jays' slugger Jose Bautista.
Verlander had an amazing season, earning 24 wins (most in AL since 1990), posting a 2.40 ERA and earning a whopping 250 strikeouts. He is the first pitcher-mvp since Eckersley in 1992 and first starting pitcher-mvp since Clemons in 1986.
It truly is an amazing feat, as a starting pitcher only appears in about 20 percent of the teams' games. Verlander was good enough to earn the award, as he had a season that will go down in history.
